How An Air Vacuum Truck Works

By using high-pressure air to dig instead of water, our air vac trucks are able to recycle the soil back into the ground without outside contamination or by adding any volume to the fill. The debris from the air vac remains dry and can be immediately used for backfill or stored for later use. It does not need to be hauled away to an approved dump site and it does not create a wet mud hole when dumped.

The air vac’s large dump bucket tilts from the side and drops the soil in a manageable-sized pile on the job site. Air vac is the preferred form of excavation in situations where the soil is loose, water is not readily available, in small-scale excavation projects, or where immediate backfill of the hole is required.

In addition, an air vac can reduce costs on:

  • Disposal fees
  • Time driving to appropriate disposal sites
  • Paying for water
  • Paying for a truck to supply water or time driving to a water source
  • Coming and going of trucks on site creating congestion

Countless Advantages Over Other Hydrovac Truck Services

Our air vac trucks feature a large 10” dig tube that boasts more suction power than a hydrovac and cuts with only 105 psi of air vs the 2000 psi of water required by hydrovacs while also producing the same results. The air vac also uses a hydraulic arm that is able to bend and adjust in multiple positions to reach over and under obstacles, as opposed to a hydrovac’s telescopic arm that requires a 6m radius to maneuver with only an 8” dig tube.

Keeping a clean worksite is sometimes unmanageable with a hydrovac. Once water is added to the equation, you increase the chances of an accident and are left with an overall unappealing and hazardous work site. Using the pneumatic digging technology of an air vac eliminates those hazards.

The time saved from no longer having to drive to approved dumpsites means you will also see an increase in your project’s productivity. Work time is spent digging and producing results rather than driving and restocking. You can fill the massive 10 cubic meter tank without restrictions because this truck isn’t going anywhere until the job is done!

How does an air vac truck work?

Air vac is a form of excavation where an all-in-one truck uses high-pressure air to dig instead of water. It is usually desired in situations where the soil is loose, water is not readily available, in small-scale excavation projects, or where immediate backfill of the hole is required.

What are the benefits of using an air vac?

Air excavation allows contractors to locate a utility and verify location, while also allowing dry backfilling of the hole with the same soil that is excavated. This method doesn’t require disposing of wet/muddy slurry of material and thus eliminates several costs such as disposal and water fees.

Is it possible to rent out the air vac hourly?

How do your air vac trucks differ compared to others?

Our air vac trucks are specifically engineered for the Alberta terrain and climate. These trucks are fitted with tri-axle chassis, 105 psi air, and on-board water and boiler that can be used if necessary.
